As the world’s largest human race celebrates its New Year, let us reflect on some of their contributions to the world. China gave us paper, silk, printing technology, porcelain, tea, fireworks and above all the writings of Master Kong or Confucius. Below are three of my favorite Confucius sayings about learning –
“By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.”
“Real knowledge is to know the extent of one’s ignorance.”
“To merely know is nothing compared to being interested in knowing; being interested in knowing is nothing compared to deriving joy from learning it.”
Here is a good video that summarizes the teachings of Confucius –
Happy New Year to all my Chinese friends!
